Wanstead
Grand Trunk RR
Wanstead Ontario, Canada - (26/12/1902)
A telephone conversation between a dispatcher and the operator at Watford resulted in a misunderstanding about a change in the crossing point for train No 5 westbound. The train normally met an eastbound freight at Watford on the Grand Trunk RR. Because of his misunderstanding, the operator failed to give the engineer of train No 5 a train order with details of a change in the crossing point. The trains met on the single line close to Wanstead. The collision caused the deaths of 28 people.
